Birdhill meeting to launch village's new initiative

Birdhill has just become Ireland's first autism-friendly village and a launch event to mark this initiatve takes place next week.

The village which scooped the overall Tidy Towns award last September has been taking steps to ensure that inclusion is at the heart of everything they do. As part of this new initiative, which features as part of Birdhill's Community Inclusion and Integration Policy, the group are working on:

- Raising awareness of the challenges experienced by persons with autism

- Educating the wider community about the condition

- Creating a more inclusive setting and environment to enable families to access amenities and services in the village, and to participate in community events.

The project will be formally launched in the Community Park in Birdhill on Thursday week, August 2nd, at 7 pm. Further details are available at https://www.facebook.com/BirdhillAutismFriendly/
