Darren Dunne crossing the finish line in Antwerp

Dunne selected for European Triathlon Championships

Darren Dunne has been selected by Triathlon Ireland to participate in the upcoming European Senior Sprint Distance Triathlon Championships in Tartu, Estonia on July 20th.

The Nenagh Triathlon Club member has just finished competing in five international races over the last five weekends where he represented Ireland in both European and World Cup races.

Dunne departed Ireland on successfully completing his third year in UL in May and travelled to Sardinia to participate in his first ITU World Cup event. The sprint distance race proved to be a big learning curve and after initially being ranked 64th he came away with a positive result in 32nd place.

From there, Darren travelled to Belgium to join an international triathlon group based near Antwerp. In his next European Cup race over Olympic distance in the Netherlands, he achieved a strong 13th place finish.

Following from this, he participated in another World Cup in Antwerp, just a short journey from his training base. A strong swim and bike combination saw him starting the run with the leaders but after cramping he came home in 33rd position.
