Tipp progress past Waterford with the minimum of fuss

GAA: Munster Senior Football Championship Quarter Final

Tipperary 0-20

Waterford 0-9

In the circumstances, Tipperary couldn’t have asked for much more from this Munster senior football quarter final win over Waterford on Saturday evening.

While expected to progress to a semi-final against Cork but with only seven days recovery time, Tipperary needed to come out of this game with as less stress as possible, and they did that, helped by the fact that Waterford came to Thurles in damage limitation mode, playing fourteen men behind the ball, with JJ Hutchinson ploughing the lone furrow in the forwards.

To that end, they made things difficult for Tipperary at times but they never looked like opening up cause problems for the Premier County, as they did to Cork in the corresponding round twelve months ago.

In terms of performance for Tipperary, there wasn’t much to write home about. It was a case of getting the job done without exerting themselves to keep as much energy in the tank for the season-defining clash with the rebels.
