Charge points for electric cars

Tipperary Co council is working with Tipperary Energy Agency in assessing demand for electric car charging points in the county.

In response to a recent notice of motion from Cllr Andy Moloney (Ind), the council pointed out that all electric vehicle charging points are in the control of the ESB. Cllr Moloney had inquired about council plans for rolling out power points in Tipperary towns and villages. He asked if consideration had been given to solar-charged power points and power provision at disabled parking bays.

“The funding of this infrastructure and ongoing operational costs will require input from the Department of Communications, Climate Action & Environment,” the council stated in reply.
“The next step is to develop a policy for the installation of such infrastructure in the county. Research is ongoing into the suitability of using solar power to charge electric cars.”
