Dr Tom Clonan will present the talk in Terryglass Hall this Friday night.

'Sisters in Arms' in Terryglass

Kilbarron Terryglass Historical Society have a lecture coming up with Dr Tom Clonan on the role of women in war.


'Sisters in Arms – The Status and Roles of Women in War and Conflict – An Irish Perspective' will be presented by Dr Clonan at Terryglass Hall on Friday April 13th at 8pm. It is hoped that the event will lead to discourse about women from the local area who were involved in wars.  


Dr Tom Clonan (Captain, retired) served as an Irish Army officer from 1989 to 2000. He is Security Analyst with the Irish Times, where he provides in-depth defence and military analysis of fast-moving international events. He also provides expert military and security analysis to RTÉ television and radio, and international broadcasters, including the BBC and Sky News. 


He is currently specialising in the threat posed by Islamic State in Iraq and Syria along with IS terrorism in Europe and US. Dr Clonan has direct experience of armed conflict in Ireland, the Middle East and former Yugoslavia (Bosnia).


Author of two best-selling books, Tom is a highly entertaining and insightful speaker with a unique mix of tragic and comic perspectives into war, conflict and the human condition. His first book, 'Blood, Sweat and Tears', was published in 2012 by Liberties Press. His second book, 'Whistleblower, Soldier, Spy' was published in 2013.


Admission to the event is €5; €2 for members. Kilbarron Terryglass Historical Society is hoping to record information about women from the parish who were involved in wars over the years, especially during the War of Independence and Civil War.
