Fresh Pedro ready to rock Nenagh

This Friday will be a 'Really Good Friday' at The Well when Nenagh band Fresh Pedro Collective release their new single in a four-act showcase of local music talent.

Fresh Pedro Collective are a three-piece alternative rock band from Nenagh. Formed from the ashes of the 'Silverminers' in late 2016, the band consists of Martin Ryan (The Freshman) on vocals/lead guitar/drums/programming, Padraig (Pedro) Fahy guitar/vocals, and Philip Loughman on bass.

Fresh Pedro released its debut single on February 13th 2018 on the band's own Freshman Records label. Free to download on Soundcloud, 'Waste My Time' draws heavily on writer Ryan’s influences, with hints of Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots and other 90s alternative acts shining through. The single was a completely independent release recorded and mixed by Paul Dwyer at Music Time studios in Roscrea and mastered by Martin Ryan in his own studio, 'The Hollow'.

Up and coming release 'Plastic Ego' shows yet another side of Ryan's songwriting with hints of dance and electronica being introduced into the overall sound. Nine Inch Nails, Filter, Prong, Smashing Pumpkins, Pitchshifter and the Prodigy have been favourites of Ryan's over the years, with the combination of electronica and rock a keen interest. This single will be released internationally and will be available on digital platforms only, such as iTunes, Spotify, Amazon Music, etc.

Fresh Pedro's music is self-described as alternative electronica/industrial rock. With a full setlist of live originals, this Nenagh band has performed in Ireland and Europe and been received very well, especially at the Horecky fest in Czech Republic in 2017.  Fresh Pedro hope to continue to release singles and play live gigs/festivals this summer.

The lads plan to release their music single by single, as opposed to making albums. “There is no market for albums anymore,” according to Ryan.

“I think singles are the way to go. With the digital market and a shuffle culture, people don’t listen to full albums as much anymore. Plus the cost in relelasing albums is crazy.

“Fresh Pedro are self-funded, self-promoted, completely independent. Making money from your art is very difficult, in fact impossible. Often times, it's a loss-making venture. But we will continue to release material and over time keep it all in house, everything from recording the music, making cheap videos, promotion, social media… it's tough work, but rewarding.”

Fresh Pedro's live show is a unique affair with lead vocalist and lead guitarist Martin Ryan performing the drums via a pre-recorded or pre-programmed backing track, reinforcing the electronica/dance element of their music.

Their next show is at The Well in Nenagh this Friday, March 30th. Titled, 'Really Good Friday', the event is a showcase of local talent with DJ DeVito, Danny Holland and Jonny Mitchell all on the supporting bill for the night. Everyone who attends will get a free mp3 copy of the 'Plastic Ego' single. Fresh Pedro have plenty of new material in the pipeline and hope to spend 2018 releasing singles and running showcase gigs in Nenagh.
