€13 million for Tipperary roads

A significantly increased allocation of €13.06 million has been announced for national primary and secondary roads in Tipperary in 2018.

The funding from Transport Infrastructure Ireland represents a major improvement on last year's allocation of €2.16 million. The largest amount of funding (over €12 million) is for improvement or pavement works. Among the local schemes that are to benefit in 2018 are the N52 and N65 in Borrisokane and the N62 at Lismackin, Roscrea.

Welcoming the funding last week, Tipperary TD Mattie McGrath (Ind) said the county had suffered cuts to its overall roads funding for almost 10 years. Deputy McGrath regretted that funding allocated under the 2018 roads maintenance programme in Tipperary has been reduced by around €1 million to €900,000.

“But overall, the increase in the main national roads allocations for 2018 is very positive for Tipperary as a whole and has to be welcomed,” Deputy McGrath said.
