HSE advice for festive season

The HSE is asking people in Tipperary to contribute to their own health and wellbeing over the holiday season.

Encouraging the public to use the very helpful website www.winterready.ie, HSE Mid West Community Healthcare Chief Officer, Mr. Bernard Gloster said ‘the Holiday Season, while being a great time of celebration, can present many challenges for people in terms of their health and wellbeing.  The winterready.ie website provides very useful information on a number of categories.  The HSE is particularly asking people to be mindful of three important messages’.

1. The elderly and those with vulnerability through illness or other circumstances can find this time of year particularly difficulty, and people are asked to keep an eye out in their own communities for people who might be in anyway vulnerable.  This is particularly important if there is a change in the weather.  We can all play an active part in keeping our community safe.

2. People who find themselves over the Holiday Season feeling unwell, are asked to consider all of the appropriate options to respond, including contacting their General Practitioner, using the out of hours emergency GP services of Shannondoc, taking advise from a Pharmacist, or using the facilities of the Nenagh Local Injury Unit, Tyone, Nenagh.  The Emergency Department should be used, but only for emergencies.

3.  Practice personal safety at all times over the Holiday Season, particularly when going outdoors or driving.  It is important that we all take responsibility for our own personal safety and that of those around us.
