Concern over Japanese Knotweed

Several councillors have expressed concern over the prevalence of Japanese Knotweed in Tipperary.

The spread of the invasive plant was discussed at last week's meeting of Tipperary Co Council. Senior Roads Engineer Michael F Hayes said a three-year programme is in place to deal with the problem.

Transport Infrastructure Ireland has engaged a contractor to spray roadways where Japanese Knotweed is found. This work is highly specialised so the council itself is not taking it on. But Mr Hayes said there is relevant information on the council's website.
