Kris Kristofferson tribute night in Borrisokane

The David Clarke Memorial Hall in Borrisokane will make an intimate venue for the latest tribute to Kris Kristofferson from a much talented band of local musicians.

Pat Mulcahy, Sean O'Connor, Shay Spain and Joe O'Brien will perform their captivating homage to the Texan music legend on Friday November 4th.

All of them major Kristofferson fans for as long as they can remember, this band of seasoned musicians have enjoyed a great reception since they recently got together. They formed when Carrigatoher man Pat Mulcahy hooked up with Joe O'Brien (Kilkeary) and Austin Durack (Birdhill) to see if a Kristofferson tribute would be well received locally.

The band now features Pat on vocals, Joe (keyboards), Shay of Toomevara on drums and Sean on guitar. Pat and Shay are very well known on the local music scene, recently reuniting the Reno 5 showband, as is Joe from playing at weddings and other functions. Sean has been a professional musician for many years and he's worked with some of the biggest names in the business all over the world. Until recently based in Japan, the 'American Folk Songbook' guitarist has returned to his parents' home hinterland and now lives in Puckane.

Together, these tributeers have performed their show at Nenagh Arts Centre, Nenagh Library, Thurles' Source Arts Centre and Killoscully. They've been delighted with the attendances and reaction so far, and are now bringing their show to the David Clarke Memorial Hall at the invitation of Borrisokane Drama Group.

Nicknaming themselves 'The 251 Club' (251 being the sum of their ages), the lads have selected 25 songs from the Kristofferson canon. These include such hits as 'Sunday Morning Coming Down', 'Me and Bobby McGee', 'Help Me Make it Through the Night', 'Why Me, Lord', and plenty more. Pat will also narrate the fascinating life story of Kristofferson the singer, songwriter and actor, a man with an interesting story to tell in all of his songs.

A fascinating night awaits for Kristofferson fans and lovers of Country music in general in Borrisokane on Friday November 4th. Doors open at 8.30pm and tickets cost €10. Tickets can be purchased at the hall on the night, or from PJ Heenan's or Molly Bán's in Borrisokane.
