Local showjumper in Rio Olympics

The 2016 Olympic Games are now well underway in Rio de Janeiro and of particular interest for the local area is Tipperary Olympian, Greg Broderick.

Broderick (30), from Ballypatrick Stables, near The Ragg, is competing in the individual showjumping. He begins competing in the Olympic next Sunday 14th August.

Competition rules state that five rounds must be ridden to determine individual medals. The top 60 riders will progress to the second round where the best 45 riders continue onto the third round, then the top 35 riders progress to the 4th round, with the top 20 going on to the fifth and final round where the medals will be determined.

Greg's begins on Sunday 14th at 6.00pm (all Irish times) and if he progresses to the second round, this takes place on Tuesday, 16th August from 6.00pm. The third round is on Wednesday 17th August and if Broderick and his horse MHS Going Global gets all the way to the finals, that will be on Friday 19th August between 6pm and 9.30pm.

Tune into our local Olympian's competitions and show your support for Broderick, hopefully we will see the Thurles man bring home an Olympic medal for Ireland.
