Tipperary’s John O’Brien to host Bord Gáis Energy Legends Tour at Croke Park

Two-time All-Ireland winner John O’Brien will host a Bord Gáis Energy Legends Tour of Croke Park on Saturday, August 13th at 2pm.  The former Tipperary forward will look back on his inter-county career and he will also look ahead to the All-Ireland semi-final on the following day when his native county take on Galway for a place in the decider.  For Tipperary fans in particular, it will be a great start to the weekend.

John’s senior career with the Premier County spanned thirteen years from his debut season in 2001.  He was lucky enough to win a Celtic Cross at the first time of asking as Tipperary beat Galway in the final.  He had to wait nine years to taste senior All-Ireland success again however.  In 2010 Tipperary stopped Kilkenny winning an historic five-in-a-row on a 4-17 to 1-18 score line earning John a first medal on the field of play.

As well as those two senior All-Ireland successes John also won five Munster medals in the blue and gold and a National League title.  He is also the holder of a Munster minor and a Munster U21 medal.

At club level John enjoyed great success with Toomevara.  In total he won seven Tipperary county titles at the senior grade.  On two of those occasions he was part of teams that went on to provincial success.

Speaking ahead of the Bord Gáis Energy Legends Tour John O’Brien said: “I’m really looking forward to hosting the tour on August 13th on what I’m hoping will be a huge weekend for Tipperary hurling.  The feeling of winning an All-Ireland title and getting the chance to climb the steps of the Hogan Stand is one that will always stay with me and getting a chance to look back on those times in the stadium itself will be special.  I hope to see a lot of Tipperary supporters on the tour as they build up to the semi-final the next day.”
