Launch of 2016 GAA Hurling All-Ireland Series

The GAA National Games Development Centre in Abbotstown on Tuesday hosted the launch of the 2016 GAA All-Ireland Hurling Series as the race for the Liam MacCarthy Cup intensifies.

Representatives from all six remaining competing counties were present at the launch as the battle to claim Kilkenny’s All-Ireland hurling title hots up.

Present were Noel McGrath (Tipperary), Pádraig Walsh (Kilkenny), David Burke (Galway), Kevin Moran (Waterford), Brendan Bugler (Clare) and Matthew O’Hanlon (Wexford).

Ard-Stiúrthóir CLG Páraic Duffy congratulated the remaining counties on being the final six sides in pursuit of the All-Ireland title and expressed his belief that hurling supporters can expect even more excitement in the remaining games in the 2016 Championship.

'To date, we’ve seen Kilkenny and Tipperary impressively put down markers in their provincial finals, watched Clare and Wexford stage a revival and know that Waterford and Galway still have a shot at redemption ahead of them.

'It means that after a hectic summer of hurling action we can look forward with confidence to the concluding stages of the Championship and feel that the best is yet to come in the battle for the Liam MacCarthy Cup.

'I want to thank our sponsors Etihad Airways, Liberty Insurance and Centra and all of our players, officials and supporters who have given so much to again make our Championships a defining part of the Irish summer.'

Next week, Waterford face Wexford and Clare meet Galway in Semple Stadium, Thurles to determine who will meet Leinster and Munster champions Kilkenny and Tipperary at the semi-final stage before the All-Ireland final pairing for September 4 will be known.

Hurling followers can avail of a special ‘Hurling Heaven’ packages which offer unrivalled value to supporters.

Club and Group pass will also be available for the quarter-finals and semi-finals - (application from club secretaries) and juveniles can attend these games for only €5.
