Nenagh Topaz fuel station plan shot down

An Bord Pleanála has shot down a plan by Topaz to build a motorway services area on the outskirts of Nenagh.
Topaz Energy Ltd had appealed the recent decision of Tipperary Co Council to refuse planning permission for a service station with six fuel pumps, a drive-through restaurant and more than 100 parking spaces, among other features, at Tullaheady.
But An Bord Pleanála has upheld the council's refusal, ruling that the location for the proposed development would not be suitable for a motorway service area. The board found that the proposed access would be substandard and would result in traffic hazard. It also considered that the proposal would injure the residential amenities of a nearby dwelling, and expressed dissatisfaction over wastewater treatment provision.
The board's inspector also considered that the Topaz proposal “would intercept business for the nearby town of Nenagh [and] set an unacceptable precedent for further such developments”.
