Low-cost neutering for cats in North Tipp

You can have your cat neutered for just €20 or €30 if you are in receipt of an approved social welfare payment, under a low cost neutering scheme jointly run by Tipperary Friends of Animals and Brittas Small Animal Hospital, Thurles,  Brittas Veterinary Clinic, Cashel and A Country Practice Veterinary  Clinic, Nenagh.

The cost at Brittas Vets is €20 per cat and at A Country Practice  €30 per cat. The scheme runs until the end of December and will be extended into next year if funds allow. This scheme allows residents of The North Tipperary area, who are in receipt of a social welfare payment, to neuter their cats for a fraction of the normal cost.

Female cats can come into season from about 6 months of age, get pregnant and produce a litter of kittens 9 weeks later. Two months later when the kittens are weaned the cat will be back in season and produce another litter. Cats continually come in season until they get pregnant and will have 2 or even 3 litters in the year.  Thousands of unwanted kittens are born in Ireland each year. It is estimated that 180,000 kittens die in Ireland each year from starvation and disease.
