Local book shortlisted for award

Toomevara author Siobhán Hackett and Mary Doherty have had their book 'Shine' shortlisted for a Bord Gáis Energy Book Award.
Siobhán and Mary, both of whom are teachers at the Ursuline Secondary School in Thurles, recently published their book, a self-help guide for teenage girls facing the challenges of modern life. Its full title is  'Shine: A Girl’s Guide to Thriving (Not Just Surviving) in Real Life'.  
The co-authors are now appealing for voters to help win a prestigious Bord Gáis award for their book. Theirs is among six works shortlisted alongside celebrities such as Bressie, Maeve Higgins, and Francis Brennan. Siobhán and Mary are the only unknowns in the category and so need all the help they can get. They are hoping that people will vote for 'Shine' and help promote the book so as to help as many incredible teenagers as possible.
