All set for tipperary culture night

This Friday, arts organisations, arts and cultural centres, museums and libraries and artists throughout the country encourage everyone to make a date with culture. If you have been meaning to visit your local museum or arts centre again or catch that film or try a music event or writing workshop why not take the opportunity this Culture Night. Tipperary Culture night is part of a national initiative to highlight the wealth of cultural activity available throughout the Country led by The Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht in partnership with Tipperary County Council and local cultural facilities. With 27 venues participating across Tipperary there is something for everyone.

 

Most culture night activities are planned so that they are accessible to a family audience and all events are free, so do take the opportunity to take part in this annual celebration of our rich culture here in Tipperary.

 

Cloughjordan – Tonos  (Róisín O’Grady, Soprano and  Eamon Sweeney , Baroque Guitar) Tonas specialise in a unique blend of Irish and European music from the 16th, 17th & 18th centuries; mixing Irish music with works by English and Continental masters; highlighting common threads and distinct differences.  Quay Arts in Ballina offer opportunities to anyone interested in amateur drama in the area to attend workshops aimed at developing new skills and providing an opportunity to try out a very enjoyable activity.

 

In Nenagh, as part of Culture night Nenagh Arts Centre presents 'The Work of Angels’an Illustrated talk on The Book of Kells, regarded as one Ireland’s most important treasures and perhaps Europe’s most important illuminated manuscript in the insular style. Gerald of Wales, travelling in Ireland in the 12th. Century, described it as ”not the work of man, but of angels”.  This illustrated talk will look at the history of the Book of Kells, how it was made and the technique and possible meanings of the decoration.   For younger audiences, a range of  hands on Artistic activities linked to the theme of “The work of angel’s” are planned for all the family in addition to a Historical Walking Tour of Nenagh led by Kevin Whelan.

The Damer Gallery in Roscrea welcomes a Choir from Sacred Heart National School, Roscrea, with a concert entitled “Voices in the Air”.
