Sports organisations clubs and individuals invited to lit tipperary sportslab open night

Sports organisations around Tipperary and beyond are invited to see for themselves a strength and conditioning centre of an international standard right on their own doorstep as LIT Tipperary throws open the doors of its Sportslab on Friday night.

And for the very special sports weekend that’s in it in Thurles, the Open Night at the LIT Tipperary campus will whet the appetite for Sunday’s much awaited Munster Final as All Ireland winning manager Liam Sheedy, retired Waterford star Tony Browne and others will be among the special guests addressing the event.

The Open Night, which is free to the public, will begin at 8p.m. but is preceded by a live broadcast from the centre of Tipp. FM’s Munster Final ‘Up for the Match’ programme with a host of guests.  Those keen to be present for the live broadcast are asked to be seated in the centre no later than 6:45p.m.

The programme concludes at 8p.m. and will be followed by a briefing on the Sprotslab, which was launched in April following a €3.7m investment, by representatives from LIT Tipperary, a Question & Answers session with Liam Sheedy, Tony Browne and others and a tour of the stunning facility.

The Open Night is part of an ongoing plan by LIT Tipperary to make the sporting public of Tipperary aware of the international quality sports facilities on their doorstep that are available for use by all clubs, organisations and individuals, of all ages and abilities.

Looking ahead to the event, Vice President, Corporate Services and Capital Development, at LIT Jimmy Browne said that the event couldn’t be more timely.  “It’s a great weekend to be having this open night as we have a triple header just 200m away in Semple Stadium on Saturday with the football and hurling qualifiers and then the big game on Sunday.  We also have Sportsfest in Thurles over the week so Friday is a perfect night to showcase a sports facility that has no peer in Ireland and is one of the best in the world,” he said.

Through a combination of high-tech equipment and lecture staff expertise, the Sportslab is the most unique centre in Europe for sports strength and conditioning, catering for 500 under and post graduate students each year.  The facilities and the expertise in the Sportslab will also be used by domestic and international athletes from all sports to help achieve optimum levels of strength and condition and ensure maximum performance. One of the key benefits arising from the programmes will be injury minimisation and recovery.
