Sports capital programme fantastic funding opportunity for local clubs mep kelly

MEP for Ireland South and former GAA President, Seán Kelly, welcomed this week's opening of the 2015 Sports Capital Programme by Minister of State Michael Ring TD, and is encouraging clubs to avail of the opportunity it presents.

'The Sports Capital funding is a fantastic opportunity for clubs to get that badly needed funding to improve their facilities for their members. Registration is now open and can be done through the official website (www.sportscapitalprogramme.ie). It will remain open until Friday, 10th April 2015 at 5pm and I ask clubs to make sure they don't miss out on this chance - get registered as soon as possible,' he said.

The programme brings an additional €40 million in funding for sports infrastructure around the country, and gives sports clubs and organisations a chance to get funding for their facilities.

'Having been heavily involved in sports clubs all my life, I know only too well how difficult it can be for clubs to get the money together for the facilities they need. The funds that are raised are usually completely down to the hard work and dedication of members who give up their time to volunteer and fundraise to keep the clubs running. This funding programme offers a chance for these people to get that boost and make their clubs even better for their fellow members.'

'Our sports clubs and organisations are the heartbeats of our communities. They play a vital social role in Ireland and contribute greatly to our physical wellbeing. 2015 will bring the total funding of the Sports Capital programme since it was reinstated by the government to €130 million, and 90% of recipients so far have said it has increased the numbers involved in their clubs.

'More and more people are getting involved in their local clubs and so I am delighted to see additional funds being made available,' Mr Kelly added.

The 2015 Sports Capital Programme is now open and the deadline for applications is 5pm on Friday, 24th April. Registrations will close at 5pm on Friday, 10th April.
