Coonan welcomes upgrade of old tesco site in roscrea

Tipperary TD Noel Coonan has welcomed the granting of planning permission for a major upgrade of the old Tesco shopping centre site in Roscrea town. Deputy Coonan is urging developer Mark Tiernan, TCORP Properties Limerick, to utilise local skills where possible and create employment for people of the town and it's environs.

'This anchor unit site has much potential and I am very pleased it will be developed into new retail units and a health care centre,' Deputy Coonan stated.

Roscrea long deserves some good news and this will restructure and renovate the old Tesco site. The good news has been very well received within Roscrea's community. It is vital this development creates local jobs. That is imperative. I am urging the developer to avail of the very skilled workforce in Roscrea and its environs during the construction process,' said Deputy Noel Coonan.

'This development is clearly another vote of confidence in Roscrea and its environs. The recently announced regional jobs strategy will ensure that Enterprise Ireland and other agencies will be focusing their attention on provincial towns like Roscrea with a view to creating much needed employment opportunities in the area. Establishing an enterprise centre in Roscrea, which will enable people with creative ideas to start their own business, is a top priority for Enterprise Ireland at this stage,' continued Deputy Coonan.

We will oversee the development in each region of an action plan by key stakeholders working collaboratively across the region. These plans for the Mid West and nationally and their implementation will be monitored and reviewed on an on-going basis,' he concluded.
