Brand new borrisokane day care centre never opened

A brand new state-of-the-art day care centre for the elderly in Borrisokane, built with taxpayers money, has been lying idle since its construction was completed almost a year and a half ago.

The fact that centre, which cost approximately €1.35 million to construct, has never being used is 'an absolute disgrace and beggars belief', says Tony McKenna, a former Borrisokane Fianna Fáil councillor for the area.

The 520 square metre building was supposed to cater for the needs of elderly people from the entire catchment of Lower Ormond who currently have to travel long distances to avail of the many benefits of day care services, or – as is currently the case for many old people in the area – do without the life enhancing services altogether.

'I just feel that somebody needs to speak out and somebody needs to get their act together. The question   is will this centre ever  open,' asked Mr McKenna.
