Lights of hope in nenagh square

Banba Square holds a special significance for the Nenagh community this
Christmas.
The five trees on the square were fitted with Christmas lights last week
to mark five facets of community life in Nenagh. One tree is lit in memory
of all who died on Tipperary's roads over the course of 2014, one for all our
loved ones who will be in hospital or nursing homes this festive season, and
one in thought of Nenagh’s emigrants overseas, especially those who will
not be coming home this Christmas. One of the trees has been lit in memory
of fallen soldiers from Tipperary in wars over the years, while another
tree lights for all our children with serious illnesses.
This touching idea was put forward by Nenagh's Tidy Towns Committee.
The lights were turned on as part of Nenagh's Christmas lights ceremony
in Banba Square last Sunday. The ceremony was attended by local Minister
Alan Kelly, Nenagh & District Chamber of Commerce President Denis Finnerty, Chair of the Nenagh Municipal District Council Fiona Bonfield, Director
of Services Marcus O'Connor, District Administrator Rosemary Joyce, Tipp hurler Shane McGrath and, Tidy Towns members.
