Houses planned for roscrea

Large numbers of people seeking local authority housing in Roscrea and Templemore is likely to lead to a scramble for new council houses likely to be built in Roscrea.

Tipperary County Council is planning to build ten houses  on a greenfield site adjacent to the Glencarrig estate on the Knock Road – and possibly thirty in the longer term.

Should the scheme go ahead, it will be good news for  a fraction of the 700 applicants in the Roscrea, Templemore and Thurles areas currently waiting for social housing.

But serious concern has been expresed over building of houses at Glencarrig, with  local councillors saying that services in that locality are already inadequate  without adding to the difficulties by introducing extra houses.

Meanwhile, a renewed campaign is also underway to persuade the council to purchase a scheme of twelve  delapidated houses in Ashbury in the town.
