Drugs dropin centre opens in roscrea

A drop-in centre for people with drug problems in Roscrea  has just been opened in the town.

The news was revealed by Derek Russell, the Chairman of the Roscrea Stands Up group, at last Thursday night's meeting of the town's Community Development Council in the Abbey Hall.

Mr Russell said the Roscrea Stands Up organisation has acquired a town centre property  to run an office that would operate as a drop-in centre for drug addicts one day a week for two hours.

While the office would also be used by the Stands Up organisation for other purposes, no members of the grouping would be present during the hours the drop-in centre was operating, as ensuring confidentiality the key for those seeking help to come off drugs.

A jobs clinic, staffed by personnel from job creation agencies, including the Tipperary Enterprise Board,  was also opening in the building this week.
