Hospice says thank you with nenagh tree of remembrance

The Nenagh branch of North Tipperary Hospice Movement will say a special 'thank you' to the public for its generous support this year with its Christmas Tree of Remembrance, which will be installed on December 6th.

An annual Christmas fixture in the town to remember departed loved ones and family, this year's tree will be installed on December 6th but no donations will be required from the public.
Chairperson of the Nenagh branch Kay O'Donoghue said that while donations would always be greatly received, this year they the tree is a 'thank you' rather than an ask.
'We decided this year that we would have this event without asking for any financial donations. The support we receive from the community is fantastic and the 2014 Christmas Tree of Remembrance is our way to say a huge thank you to all of the supporters and friends of North Tipperary Hospice.
'We expect to have a big turnout this year for the lighting ceremony. It is not only an occasion to commemorate loved ones gone by, but to bring local people together and celebrate our community this Christmas.'
The tree will be placed on the steps of Nenagh Courthouse in Banba Square where it will remain until after the New Year. The 'turning on of the lights' ceremony will take place on Saturday December 6th at 4pm. To celebrate this occasion we will have an Ecumenical Service and a light will shine for each request and a special ceremony remembering all of the departed loved ones will take place. The evening will be accompanied by songs from the Silvermines Folk Choir group.
The hospice welcomes the public to dedicate a light on the special Tree of Remembrance for deceased loved ones. Booklets have been placed in all of the local churches and surrounding areas of Nenagh for people to write the names of their loved ones to be remembered at the ceremony.
Each person named will be commemorated with a light on the tree and will be entered into the North Tipperary Hospice Book of Remembrance, which will be on display after the ceremony in Nenagh's public library. A mass will also take place in the different parishes for all of the names entered in the book of remembrance this year.
Kay spoke of the event saying, 'It is a lovely and poignant way to remember those we have lost. Whenever I pass by the Christmas tree throughout the month it is displayed, I remember someone dear to me who I have lost. This event means a lot to me and I hope the community will get similar comfort out of this commemoration.”
The North Tipperary Hospice Movement would sincerely like to thank all who have supported them generously throughout 2014. The services provided cost over €400,000 annually – all of which comes from local public donations.
'Year after year we are overwhelmed by people's generosity towards our cause. We look forward to giving something special back to the community and celebrating this event together with our supporters,' said Kay.
