New single management system for public libraries

A contract has been signed by the Local Government Management Agency with Innovative Interfaces Global Limited for the supply and implementation of a single library management system for all public libraries in Ireland.

Minister of the Environment and Local Government Alan Kelly said: “The introduction of a single library system for public libraries across the country is a ground-breaking initiative, the first of its kind in Europe and will provide significant benefits to the public. All of the individual library collections from every local authority library across the country will be included in the new management system, offering the public access to the library collections, resources and digital content of all public libraries in one search.”

The system will enable the introduction of a number of new services such as a single membership card across all public libraries, universal membership for all children and a virtual library; each of these are services planned under the Public Library Strategy 2013-2017, Opportunities for All, published in December 2013. This is a progressive programme for the development and enhancement of public library services for the next five years.
