Healthcare waste treatment facility planned for portroe

A proposed healthcare waste treatment and recovery facility earmarked for the old Tubex factory at Corbally, Portroe, the home parish of Environment Minister, Alan Kelly, is in the planning stages.

Envetec Environmental Techologies Limited is seeking  planning permission from Tipperry County Council for the change of use of part the former factory to develop 'a housed waste treatment and recovery facility'.

The development would include the installation of 'a state of the art emissions-free, odourless, non-thermal healthcare waste recovery system' within the building. The company behind the planned project says there would be no external storage or processes.

Permission is being sought to decommission and seal the existing septic tanks on the site  for the temporary storage of waste water and the provision of indoor bunded tanks for the storage of process water prior to removal for treatment at an EPA approved facility off-site.

The developers are seeking to replace the existing above- ground steel water tank with a water storage tank for firefighting purposes, and provide a bored well on site for the abstraction of potable water for employees.

Works would also include modifications to, and upgrade, of the existing derelict main building on site, including demolition of a section of the building, internal modifications to the existing single storey building south of the main building to provide for staff facilities and improvements to the existing road network.

The proposed development is also subject to a separate application for an IED Licence to the Environmental Protection Agency.
