Newcomers Lough Derg moved to the top of the Premier Division at the weekend with a fantastic 2-1 win over Borroway Rovers.

Jack O’Mahoney and Stephen McCarthy were on target for John Hayes’ side who have now taken seven points from their opening three games following another 2-1 upset over Nenagh Celtic in the midweek fixtures.

It’s early days yet but these performances and results are clear proof that Derg truly belong at the top table and no Premier side will relish a visit to Clarisford Park at the moment.

Borroway Rovers had secured an impressive 4-0 win over a struggling Thurles Town the previous week but injuries and availability are hampering the efforts of Paul Gould’s side.

Thurles are not enjoying a good start to the season with three losses on the bounce the most recent coming on Sunday at home to Killavilla United.

Villa have kick-started their campaign following a heavy loss in their opening fixture to Nenagh Celtic, recording a 2-0 win over Moneygall in midweek, with goals from Ruari Murphy and Mark Dwyer, before beating Thurles by the same score line.

Elsewhere Ballymackey continued their bright start to the season with a 2-1 win over Cloughjordan.

Division 1

Clodiagh Rangers look the team to beat with a statement 4-1 victory over Rearcross last week.

Borrisokane are continuing their own great start with a couple of impressive recent victories. First they recorded a 5-3 win over local rivals Ardcroney with goals from Brian Donnelly, Padraig Quinn, Jack Mahoney, Stephen Darcy and James Hough while at the weekend they secured an excellent 1-0 home victory over Sallypark with the only goal scored by Mike Gavin.
