Derby clash for Newport in FAI Junior Cup

Off the back of Newport Town's dramatic progression to the last 32 of the FAI Junior Cup, all eyes and ears were focused on Dublin last Friday for the sixth round draw.

Having taken care of Sligo/Leitrim League champions Carbury FC in round 5 at home, Newport won't have too far to go in the next round, in fact just ten minutes away after being draw to near neighbours Aisling Annacotty of the Limerick Premier League.

The tie will take place in Annacotty on the weekend of January 12/13 and will pit players that are extremely familar with each other on both sides, with Aisling containing former Nenagh AFC youngsters Steve Daly, Dylan Sheehan and Ben Banaghan in their squad.

Two divisions separate the sides in the Limerick District League so Newport will have to pull off another magic performance if they are to reach the last sixteen.

Newport are one of five Tipperary teams left in the competition with the North Tipperary & District Leagues sole remaining representative BT Harps handed a home tie with Leinster Senior League side Ballymun United from Dublin.
