Celtic held by battling Portumna

By Padraig Ryan

Nenagh Celtic dropped two precious points at home to Portumna Town on Saturday evening in the opening game of the weekend in the North Tipperary & District League Premier Division.

This feisty encounter ended in a 3-3 draw with Celtic’s goals coming from Jimmy Hynes, Danny Ryan and Paul Walsh. The away goals came courtesy of a David Nee brace and a Simon Curran strike. Portumna were happy to depart Nenagh with a share of the spoils from a game against one of the league’s top sides.

Meanwhile Killavilla United cemented their place at the top of the league with an impressive 7-1 rout of Borroway Rovers in Villa Park on Saturday evening.

Villa raced into a three goal lead inside five minutes with a Rory Murphy hat-trick but Borroway managed to pull one back before half-time through Anto Walker. That strike proved to be a mere consolation though, as Villa were rampant in the second half and scored four more goals, two coming from Brian Moloney with Shane and Denis Moloney also finding the net, the latter from the penalty spot as the Roscrea side continue to set the pace.
