NT&DL; begin transition to Summer Soccer as final winter season begins

SOCCER: North Tipperary & District League Season Preview 2018

By James Kirwan

The North Tipperary & District League will this season start its transformation to calendar year football (Summer Soccer) in an effort to stop the exodus of clubs and players alike from the league.

The idea was brought to head over a year a go when the clubs met in Templemore along with the now NT&DL Fixture Consultant James Kirwan. Most clubs agreed that summer soccer was probably the best way to go as big change was needed.

The NT&DL board promised to investigate this venture and duly delivered at the 2018 deferred AGM as plans were set to make the change happen for the 2019 season. The aim for this season is to have all competitions completed by the turn of the year so that the complete changeover can happen, and the 2019 season can start on the week of March 1st.

To facilitate this, the League season has been back for three weeks already with the annual pre-season Shield competitions having been completed with Thurles Town, Shinrone United and BT Harps 'B' grabbing the silverware for their respected divisions.

Premier Division

The Premier Division has been completely dominated by Thurles Town for the past two seasons as they continue their long unbeaten league run which stretches back to 2016.
