Sean Carolan with one of the three gold medals won at the National Under 19 Championships

4 golds for Nenagh athletes at National Juvenile Championships

Days 2 & 3 of the All Ireland Juvenile Track & Field Championships took place in Tullamore last weekend and the Nenagh Olympic athletes were in fine form bringing back four gold medals.

Top athlete was Seán Carolan who scored a double success with a win in both the Under 19 Shot Putt (14.31m) and Hammer where he went over the 50m for the first time. Second to Seán in the Hammer was his teammate Brian Naughton who threw 46 metres plus.

On Sunday, the U19 boys took up where their teammates left off with, firstly, Darragh Miniter getting the better of Carolan in the Long Jump with Darragh recording a new personnal best (PB) of 6.90m.

Not to be outdone, Seán Carolan then reversed the order with another 1-2 finish, this time in the Discus which also saw Joe McEvoy finish fourth and Brian Naughton seventh which brought these four U19 athletes juvenile careers to a conclusion. Joe McEvoy also cleared 1.95m when taking the silver medal in the High Jump.

Jodie McGrath showed the girls have quality too with a silver medal in the U16 Pole Vault to continue a great season.
