Hackett causes major upset at Cork

CREPELLO

Ray Hackett had a welcome change of luck at Cork on Friday when saddling Rock On Bennie to land the two mile and four 80 107 mares handicap hurdle at odds of 50/1.

Having failed to trouble the judge in her previous five or so outings, the daughter of Beneficial tore the form book to shreds with an authoritative display in the hands of 5lb claimer Conor Orr.

Settled well off the pace, Rock On Bennie made eyecatching progress to be in contention rising to the third last flight. At this point she was clearly travelling best of all and Orr had only to push her clear with hands and heels to defeat My Peggy by two and a quarter lengths with the favourite Something Sweet a further half length back in third place.

Ray Hackett told me that the good ground and the step up in trip were a big factor in this success and he is now viewing a similar type race at Limerick as the next likely port of call. He was also full of praise for the locally based Little Big Rock Syndicate who own the mare for their patience and to add to the story they also own the dam Cooper's Crest who has a number of progeny on the ground so we might well be hearing much more about the family in the time ahead.
