Darren Dunne crosses the line to win the Duathlon National Championship

Dunne wins National Duathlon title

Nenagh Triathlon Clubs Darren Dunne has claimed his first senior national title of 2019 with victory in the Duathlon National Championships held in Sligo on Saturday 30th March last.

160 competitors from all over Ireland attended the Sligo Triathlon Club organised event. The course was challenging with the 9km run starting on the road and then diverting into the woods for a mostly off-road and tough terrain course. The cycle consisted of a 40km out and back hilly bike leg. The final run was 4km through Union Wood to the finish line.

Darren Dunne and last year’s silver medallist worked together through the first 9km of the race, entering T1 a single second apart on 30mins 35secs. Darren had a smooth transition and put in a commanding lead on the 40km cycle. He had a split of 1hr 38seconds on the bike returning back to the second transition with a lead of over two minutes. The final 4km run saw Dunne maintain his lead to finish, winning with a time of 1hr 45mins and 53secs.
