Stormy Air breezes in for Hogan at Cork

Stormy Air, from the Denis Hogan yard, put a number of disappointing behind him to capture the extended mile 45-65 handicap at Cork on Wednesday last.

A maiden coming into the race after nine or so starts, the Bated Breath gelding was at 7 &8/1 as punters sided with the Hilary McLaughlin runner Count Of Carabass. A hold up horse, Count Of Carabass suffered traffic problems early in the race which all but ruled him out of contention but rider Chris Hayes was not hard on him once his chance had gone and he will have another day.

On the other hand, Stormy Air was settled in mid division by Shamie Heffernan. He improved to be bang into contention turning to face then judge. Heffernan kicked him into the lead at the two furlong marker but he was all out to old the late charge of Bercasa by half a length.

This success will do much for the confidence of the winner and Hogan, who is a dab hand at foraging out opportunities for his runners, can place him to further success.
