Slippy Cian heads the betting for Irish Greyhound Derby semi finals weekend

It’s down to the final 12 as a dozen dogs are still in with a chance of netting the €300,000 BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby.

This Saturday will see semi final action at Shelbourne Park with two red-hot heats to be decided.

Limerick-owned Slippy Cian – trained by Graham Holland who still has five runners in the mix – is now favourite to take the crown at 4/1 with BoyleSports.

Jaytee Taylor follows at 5/1, with Templemore-owned Totos Park – who was second to Slippy Cian in the quarter finals – at 6/1.

Clonakilty-owned Clona Blaze is joined by Magical Bale at 8/1, with Kilkenny-trained Crossfield Will rounding off the single figures betting at 9/1.

Others to watch include Clonbrien Hero and Newhall Missile, who has gained much of a following around Clare, at 12/1, and Drive On Tipp at 16/1.

With a total prize fund of €300,000, the Irish Greyhound Derby is in its 87th year. In 2017 BoyleSports, Ireland’s largest independent bookmaker signed a three sponsorship deal with the Irish Greyhound Board which will deliver €1 million in prize money to greyhound owners, breeders and trainers.

The Final of this highly anticipated event will take place on Saturday 22 September 2018. Both the Semi-Final and Final will be broadcast live on RTÉ 2 and online to a worldwide audience on RTÉ website and RTÉ Player.  Watch it worldwide on RTÉ Player at rte.ie/player, or just search for RTÉ Player in your app store.
