CLUB FIXTURES
The FBD Insurance County Tipperary senior and intermediate hurling championships and Seamus Ó Riain Cup were the main focus of attention last weekend as the group stages came to a close.
In the FBD Insurance County Tipperary senior hurling championship the top seeds and group winners through to the quarter finals are - Nenagh Eire Óg, Borris-Ileigh, Kilruane MacDonaghs and Kiladangan. Also, through to the knockout stages are the group runners up – Loughmore-Castleiney, Toomevara, Éire Óg Annacarty-Donohill and Drom and Inch, who, depending on divisional results, may have to play a divisional winner in a preliminary quarter-final.
Turning attention to the FBD Insurance Seamus Ó Riain Cup, the group winners and top seeds are – Templederry Kenyons, Holycross-Ballycahill, Mullinahone and JK Brackens. The runners up who will be drawn against the above in the quarter finals are – Carrick Swan, Silvermines, Ballingarry and Cashel King Cormacs.
In the FBD Insurance County Tipperary intermediate hurling championship the top seeds are Moyne-Templetuohy, Knockavilla-Donaskeigh Kickhams, Boherlahan-Dualla, Kiladangan and Moyle Rovers. While the group runners up are Kilsheelan-Kilcash, Shannon Rovers, Borrisokane, Sean Treacys and Golden-Kilfeacle.
On the county scene this week there are third round matches in the FBD Insurance County Tipperary senior, intermediate and junior football championships. While at divisional level, the respective hurling championships swing back into action, with the South senior final between Mullinahone and Carrick Swan going ahead on Sunday evening at 5pm in Clonmel Sportsfield.
Some fixture dates to take note of; week ending 29th September – FBD Insurance County football quarter finals and preliminary hurling quarter finals. Clubs unable to play the hurling preliminary quarter finals over that weekend, will be fixed for mid-week of the 1st/2nd of October. Week ending 6th October – FBD Insurance County hurling quarter finals.

LADIES GAELIC FOOTBALL
Best wishes to the Tipperary ladies football team as they prepare to take on Meath in the TG4 All-Ireland Intermediate Ladies Football Championship final in Croke Park, on Sunday next, September 15th. Throw-in will be at 1:45pm.
TIPPERARY CLUBS DRAW
The September GAA draw was held in Robinson's Bar, Kilsheelan last Friday night and congratulations to all the winners in the draw.
The main prize of either a Skoda Fabia / Renault Clio or €15,000 went to Sean Everard from the Moyne-Templetuohy club, while second prize of a holiday or €5,000 went to Eamon Greed from Clonakenny GAA club.
MANAGERIAL APPOINTMENT
Best wishes to Darren Gleeson (Portroe) who was ratified as the new Antrim Senior Hurling Manager at Monday night's Antrim county committee meeting.
HANDBALL
Tipperary contested six adult 60 x 30 All-Ireland finals at the weekend. James Prentice from Ballina travelled to Crinkle in Offaly to contest the U21 singles against Sean Kerr from Tyrone. This was a cracker of a game with both players evenly matched. Kerr won the first 21/13 after some exciting handball and the second game saw the Tipp man go ahead and at one stage led 20-14. The game took a dramatic change with the Tyrone man pulling back aces as Prentice failed on six occasions to finish off the game. The game was levelled at 20 all with the Tyrone player serving and after a great rally Kerr went for a kill shot which was just off the mark. Prentice went back in and finished the game off in great style to level the tie. The final game was close as the players matched ace for ace up to 14 all but James Prentice put in a great finish and powered on to win 21/14 to claim the U21 title. Congratulations to James on claiming the title.
John Kennedy from the Silvermines was in Tuamgraney in Clare in the SMBS against James Towey from Mayo. The Mayo man took the first game 21/16 but James rallied back in the second to win 21/16. The third was anybody’s game with John narrowly losing out 21/17.
Billy Mullins and Pakie Mullins travelled to Fahy in Offaly to contest the DMAS and O/70’s finals. Billy easily won the DMAS title beating Ed Lee from Leitrim 21/6, 21/8. In the O/70’s Pakie Mullins defeated Morgan Darcy from Galway 21/2, 21/0.
In the GMAS in Baltinglass in Wicklow Pat O’Flaherty (Youghalarra) was beaten by Tom Sheridan from Meath. In the Ladies Intermediate singles in Virginia in Cavan, Sinead Meagher from Nenagh was beaten by Aoife McCarthy from Westmeath 21/7, 21/14.
Ballina hosted the Intermediate Doubles final where Keith Bourke and Shane Dunne beat Galway’s Diarmuid Mulkerrins and Cian Ó Conghaille in a three-game thriller and the referee was Paddy Collins. Thurles hosted the O35AS where Gavin Buggy beat Ollie Conway Galway while James Stanners (Wexford) beat Matt Kenny (Galway) in the MBS and the referee was Kevin Timmons.

HEALTHY CLUB CONFERENCE
The role played by GAA clubs in supporting the health and wellbeing of communities across Ireland will be explored at the 2019 Healthy Club Conference in Croke Park on Saturday, October 5th.
Delegates will participate in workshops covering mental health in sport, diversity and inclusion, positive aging, and the importance of physical activity. The themes will be brought to life through practical case studies revealing initiatives rolled out by Healthy Clubs covering these themes.
The event, proudly delivered in partnership with Healthy Ireland and Irish Life, will see a further 84 GAA clubs across the 32 counties receive official recognition as ‘Healthy Clubs’, having completed Phase 3 of the project. Congratulations to two Tipperary clubs, Lorrha-Dorrha and Newport, which completed Phase 3 of the Healthy Club Project and will receive official recognition at the conference.
The conference will also see the launch of Phase 4 of the award-winning Healthy Club Project, as the GAA seek to recruit another 150 clubs to participate come January 2020.
Renowned GAA coaching tutor, Paudie Butler, will discuss in his keynote address how the development of the child – including their wellbeing – lies at the heart of all good coaching and is fundamental to the principles of the Healthy Club Project.
You will also hear from GAA ambassadors Noel McGrath and Nicole Owens. Workshops will cover: Mental Fitness, Physical Activity, Positive Ageing, and Diversity and Inclusion #gaahealth
Noel is the players’ representative on the GAA’s National Health and Wellbeing Committee and will participate in a panel discussion. (Additional player ambassadors will be announced in the coming weeks.)
An Uachtarán Cumann Lúthchleas Gael, John Horan, said: “I want to offer my congratulations to the 84 clubs that will receive official recognition as Healthy Clubs at the conference. The work they have undertaken over the course of their journey has been a credit to the Association. I also urge other clubs to attend and get involved in the Healthy Club Project. It helps the GAA live up to the values of its new manifesto: ‘Where We All Belong’. This exciting work couldn’t happen without our partners Irish Life and Healthy Ireland and I want to acknowledge their continued support for the project.”

WHEELCHAIR HURLING
Wheelchair Inter Provincial Hurling will take place in Newport this Saturday, September 14th. The opening ceremony takes place at 10.30am with the throw in for the first game at 11am. If you are planning on dropping in, please note the event finishes around 3pm.
It will take place at St. Marys Secondary School Newport Co. Tipperary. Every year each of the provinces hosts a round of the League competition and this year’s Munster leg is being held in Newport and each of the four provinces will have a team taking part. The Munster team is made up of players from Clare, Limerick and Kerry.

STARS IN THEIR EYES
The Tipperary GAA Supporters Club is hosting a fundraiser for the Tipperary Senior Hurling All Ireland Champions 2019 and Camogie Team by staging “Stars in Their Eyes” at The Dome, Semple Stadium, Thurles on Saturday, November 9th.
The evening will be compered by the very high-profile sports presenter Marty Morrissey and celebrity judges will include sports pundit and ex Tipperary goalkeeper Brendan Cummins, TV, Radio and entertainment personality Mairead Ronan and Tipperary country singer Louise Morrissey.
The Tipperary Supporters Club are seeking sponsorship and we are hoping that the businesses in Tipperary will be happy to be associated with this high-profile event and support the All Ireland winning Tipperary senior hurlers holiday fund and the Tipperary senior camogie players fund.
