Tipperary began their All Ireland Intermediate Ladies Football Championship campaign with a convincing, yet hard earned victory over Meath in Ardfinnan on Sunday.

The home side blitzed the visitors in the opening minute when they bagged two goals in quick succession from Aishling Moloney and Angela McGuigan.

Aisling McCarthy two points before Caoimhe Condon bagged goal number three to put Tipperary 3-2 to no score in front before Meath registered their first score in the 12th minute when Emma Duggan goaled from a penalty. She quickly followed it up with a pointed free.

Tipperary though were in no mood for hanging around and in a fast paced move beginning with Caitlin Kennedy and involving Niamh Lonergan and Aisling McCarthy, Tipp charged back up the field again ending with a Niamh Lonergan point.

The Premier girls were relentless with Meath put under pressure and in another attack Angela McGuigan and Aisling McCarthy played in the industrious Laura Dillon for Tipp’s fourth goal in the 21st minute as Tipp led 4-3 to 1-1.
