Nenagh join Roscrea in last four

Nenagh Eire Og joined Roscrea in the semi-finals of the County Hurling League Division 1 following the final weekend of group games last weekend.

Roscrea already had confirmed top spot in group 1 before their final match away to Clonoulty-Rossmore and the Rossie's completed their campaign unbeaten with a 1-18 to 0-13 victory.

Nenagh Eire Og secured second place in this group with a 4-16 to 2-9 win away to Portroe on Sunday morning.

The visitors needed a win to secure a semi-final place and wasted no time in taking control of the match with a Conor Hennessy goal before Portroe could reply with a John Sheedy free leaving the score 1-2 to 0-1 after about five minutes.

Wet conditions didn’t help the play and a Nenagh error lead to a David Lumbroso goal, points from AJ Willis, Rudhran Mulrooney and placed balls from John Sheedy had the score at half time 1-6 to Nenagh’s 2-6 with Cian O'Farrell getting Eire Og's second goal.

In the second half, a Colm Gleeson goal and points from James Ryan and John Sheedy kept them at Nenagh heels in the early part but it wasn’t enough as Nenagh showed no mercy with Philip Hickey and Sean Phelan raising green flags for a thirteen point victory.

Portroe managed to avoid relegation on score difference despite Killenaule's win over Eire Og Annacarty as Loughmore/Castleiney's walkover conceded to Portroe ended up saving Port who would have dropped on head to head with Killenaule.
