TIPPERARY v WATERFORD

Nowlan Park, Kilkenny

Saturday 29th June

Throw-in @ 3.00pm

Referee: Liz Dempsey (Kilkenny)

Tipperary's senior and intermediate camogie teams championship preparations have been hit with a massive blow after Bill Mullaney was forced to step down as manager for health reasons.

News broke of Mullaney's decision broke on Sunday evening, just over 24 hours after the senior and intermediate teams were in championship action, however, Mullaney wasn't on the sideline for either game in Cork or Wexford respectively.

The Newport/Ballinahinch clubman has been in charge of the senior and intermediate teams for the last year and a half, after stepping up from minor manager where he guided Tipperary to All Ireland glory in 2016, having previous won an under 16 All Ireland for the Premier County.

He led Tipperary seniors to a first All Ireland semi-final appearance in a decade in his first year in charge while the intermediates also reached the semi-final, following it up with a National League Division 2 title earlier this year.

In a statement issued on Monday morning confirming his departure, Tipperary Camogie Board thanked Bill Mullaney for “for his tireless work and commitment to Tipperary Camogie over the last few years. We wish him good health for the future”.

It has been confirmed that the remaining selectors: Niamh Lillis (Drom & Inch), Dinny Ferncombe (Holycross), Carmel Bradshaw (Ballina), Eddie Costello (Drom & Inch) and Cian Treacy (Thurles Sarsfields) will look after both senior and intermediate teams for the remainder of the championship, beginning this Saturday with the senior championship rematch with Waterford.

It is vital Tipperary get some continuity together for such a key game against Waterford on Saturday, the re-fixture of the game that was abandoned two weeks ago following a head injury sustained by Nicole Walsh.
