Callanan developing as a true leader

This is Seamus Callanan’s twelfth championship season with the Premier County.

While he was an All Ireland winner in 2010, coming off the bench to score two points in that final victory over the Kilkenny, the first half of his senior career was a frustrating one as he struggled to find a regular space in the side.

However the second half of his career has seen him develop into a true Tipperary great and last Sunday's 1-4 scoring contribution has brought his championship scoring total to 31-208 in just 51 championship appearances.

Despite being named skipper at the start of the campaign, there were concerns over his form coming into the 2019 championship but almost from the beginning, Callanan set the tone with his second minute goal against Cork in the opening game, finishing with 1-3.

He added 1-0 against Waterford, 1-3 against Clare and another 1-4 against Limerick.

We also wondered about his role without the free-taking responsibility which has been handed to Jason Forde but the Drom & Inch clubman has given in answer in spades as he has led by example with outstanding workrate on and of the field.

Everything we do, it is about Tipperary,” he said following Sunday's win over Limerick.
