Tipp U20 Footballers head into championship on a high

Tipperary  2-17

Carlow  0-6

Report: Enda Treacy in Dr Morris Park

Tipperary made it two wins out of three in the Andrew Corden Cup pre-season U20 football league, as they easily accounted for Carlow last Wednesday.

Having handily dispatching Waterford in the first round before shipping a heavy defeat against Laois in round two, this was a performance to resurrect some confidence into the players ahead of their Munster quarter-final clash with Limerick in Semple Stadium next month.

A merciless first half onslaught from Tipp had this game well wrapped up within 20 minutes, as a Sean O’Connor led attack ripped Carlow open time and again to give the home side an unassailable 1-9 to 0-1 at the break and it was plain sailing for the remainder as they eased to victory.

Clonmel Commercials man O’Connor topped scored for the Premier with an impressive 1-4 from full-forward, while he was ably assisted in the scoring stakes by Portroe’s AJ Willis who got through an amount of work, while also chipping in with three points from centre-forward.

While the opposition challenge was poor on the day, Tipp management will be glad to see a good performance after the Laois game and with the Limerick game on the near horizon, it will give the players confidence going into the final few weeks preparations.

On Saturday, Shane Doyle was the hero as it was his goal which saw Tipperary defeat Wezford 1-10 to 1-9 in Enniscorthy to end the competition with three wins from four behind winners Laois who were unbeaten.
