Following their 2017 All-Ireland Intermediate success and subsequent promotion to senior level, Tipperary would not have envisaged featuring in another Munster Intermediate decider just two seasons later.

However, a comprehensive victory over Clare in Cappamore last Sunday emphasised the quality of this group of players, which have now regained some serious momentum following a turbulent year in 2018.

Fielding an almost identical side to the team which overcame Clare by four points (2-15 to 2-11) three weeks previously, Tipp raised their performance to another level on Sunday, making this game a far more straightforward encounter. Even in spite of the 13 point deficit, Clare showed plenty of ability whilst in possession, but found it impossible to sustain any kind of attack against an opposition as athletic and fast-moving as Tipp. It was ultimately this athleticism, combined with their clinical finishing and robust defending, which set the winning side apart.
