Roynane glad to have survived division 1

Tipperary manager Shane Roynane said he was relieved that his side had preserved their division 2 status for another year with Sunday's win over Monaghan at Semple Stadium.

With just the bottom team being relegated, Monaghan needed the win to avoid the drop and played like their lives depended on it and will rue two missed penalties in the first half as Tipp came from behind to claim their second win in what is their first ever campaign in the top division.

We are very relieved,” admitted Roynane.

I suppose it wasn’t pretty but that was going to be the nature of it. Monaghan are a very proud county and they knew coming down today that they had to win the game.

I suppose we would have had a different challenge next week if we hadn’t got the result today but look we’re delighted, were relieved to stay up.

We felt we were good enough to stay up all year, we put in a lot of good performances, that today was probably one of our poorer performances but there was so much on the line today that it was a real dig-out win and we’re just delighted to be staying up.”
