O'Brien eager to build on winning performance

This is Steven O'Brien's fourth season on the Tipperary senior football squad but it could well be that he came of age on Sunday.

Having first played senior football in 2013, the Ballina man tried his hand at senior hurling for Tipperary, winning an All Ireland medal in 2016.

However, he never fully made the breakthrough and in late 2017, rejoined the senior football set-up. It wasn't a seamless return as the midfielder looked to find his feet at this level once more but his storming performance in Tipperary's come from behind win over Donegal is hopefully an indication that the talent that saw him win an All Ireland minor medal in 2011 will come to fruition at senior level.

We are after setting a benchmark now,” said O'Brien of his sides victory on Sunday.

Any time we don't produce a performance it'll be below standard so we know what we can do now so it is about consistency going forward.”
