Air of positivity at Camogie Convention

Tipperary Camogie Board held its annual Convention at the Camogie grounds, The Ragg on Tuesday of last week.

Bridget Bourke (Drom & Inch) was returned unopposed as chairperson and in her address, said that despite Tipperary inter-county teams failing to win silverware in 2018, it was a year in which much progress was made.

It is heartening to see that we are competing at the top level in all our groups,” she said.

Our Senior and Intermediate teams both reached the All Ireland semi-finals and while we were defeated in both, it is a positive step forward as Tipperary Camogie have not featured at this stage for a number of years.”

Their upturn in fortunes resulted in a senior All Star for Cait Devane while Jennifer Grace received a Soaring Star award in the intermediate championship.

The Minor 'A' & 'B' sides also reached All Ireland semi-finals with the 'A' side winning the Munster Shield title.

2018 will also be remembered for Burgess/Duharra completing a magnificent seven of county senior championship titles, while Cashel returned to the senior grade as impressive winners of the intermediate championship.

There was a significant change in the role of secretary as Carmel Harkin retired after serving the county as both Chairperson and Secretary over the past seven years.
