Liam Sheedy

Notable appointments to Tipp hurling and football teams

The long awaited unveiling of Liam Sheedy's backroom team for the Tipperary senior hurling set-up led to a high turnout of delegates to last weeks October County Board meeting in Thurles.

All management teams were ratified without dissent with Liam Sheedy's return confirmed for a three year term with, as expected, Toomevara's Tommy Dunne and Kiladangan's Darragh Egan coming on board as coach and goalkeeping coach respectively. Both men will also be selectors with one more name likely to be added before the turn of the year. Toomevara's Paddy O'Brien remains on as physio.

Much of the interest though centred on the strength & conditioning coach appointment with Cairbre O Caireallan filling the post. The Antrim native has an impressive CV, he is currently with Arsenal FC in England where he has been working since 2015, beginning with their Youth Academy and is currently the head strength & conditioning coach of their Women's team. O Ceareallan will finish up with Arsenal in the coming weeks before moving to Thurles full time to focus on Tipperary.

O Caireallan came into Liam Sheedy's radar with both having worked with the Antrim senior hurlers in 2018. O Ceareallan has also had previous GAA coaching experience with the Limerick Hurling Academy under Anthony Daly in 2014-15, with many players from that year going onto win All Ireland senior hurling medals this year.
