A Stephen Murray goal three minutes from time helped Burgess come from behind to defeat Templederry in an entertaining Seamus O’Riain Cup semi-final on Saturday.

Murray, who once again led the way with an impressive tally of 2-9 (2-1 from play) grabbed the goal when it looked as if his side were very much in trouble after been outscored 2-7 to 0-4 in the previous 23 minutes.

In fact, Templederry should have been much further in front but eight wides in the second half and five in the first was their downfall before Stephen Murray stole yards inside the Templederry cover when taking a handpass from Danny Ryan to rattle the net.

And while Murray led the way in the scoring stakes, one had to admire the tenacity of such experienced players like Shane Maher at full back, Donagh Maher at centre back who partnered a hard working half backline with Noel Gleeson on the left while Johnny Mulqueen produced a string of clearances to earn a man of the match award.

The victory for Burgess could not come at a better time. Their final against Moycarkey/Borris will be played as a curtain raiser to the county senior final and to add to the occasion the Burgess winning County Intermediate team of 1993 will be honoured the same day.
