HURLING ALL-STAR NOMINATION

A shortlist of 45 players has been nominated for the PwC All-Star team in which Tipperary has just the one player nominated, Jason Forde (Silvermines) and we wish him the best of luck in the selection process.

MUNSTER CHAMPIONSHIP DRAWS 2019

At the Munster council meeting last Thursday night the following schedule for the 2019 Munster senior hurling championship games was agreed. There are 2 free weekends built into the revised schedule from a Tipperary viewpoint unlike this year as we know where our senior team were on the go for 4 straight weekends.

Starting a week earlier than this year, on May 12th, 2019, Tipperary travel to play Cork in Páirc Uí Chaoimh. The following week, May 19th Tipperary will play Waterford in Semple Stadium. There will be a gap weekend for all counties on May 26th or June 2nd (Munster will take one and Leinster the other) before Tipp take to the road again on one of the aforementioned dates when finalised as a fixture when they travel to Ennis to play Clare. June 9th will be another free weekend for Tipperary before the last round match on June 16th when Tipperary will play Limerick in Semple Stadium.

The Munster SH Final is set for June 30th.

The proposed dates for the Munster senior football championship will see the quarter-finals played on May 19th, the semi-finals on June 2nd and the Munster SF final is scheduled for June 30th though there is the possibility it may be brought back to 16th.

The draw for the 2019 Munster senior football championship will take place on October 11th in conjunction with the other provincial senior football championship draws.  Once this draw is made Munster Council will need to consider any potential clashes to avoid the issues that arose this year.

The draws for the 2019 Munster Under 20 Hurling and Munster Under 20 Football Championships will take place at the next Munster CCC meeting scheduled for Thursday, November 29th.

A new format for the 2019 Munster Minor Football Championship has been confirmed on a one-year trial basis. Phase 1 will see a round-robin format involving Clare, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford with each county getting 3 games. The top two teams will then play the Phase 1 Final. The winner of the Phase 1 Final will join Cork and Kerry in a Phase 2 round-robin format, with the top 2 teams qualifying for the Munster Final. The purpose of the new format is to ensure that the developing counties of Clare, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford get at least three games against teams of a similar standard. The Phase 1 Final winner will have played four games before progressing to meet Cork and Kerry.

DEAN RYAN CUP
This week sees the beginning of the Munster GAA Post Primary Schools season as the Dean Ryan Cup (Under 16 ½ A Hurling) competition gets underway. Last year, Thurles CBS went out on their own at the top of the roll of honour, winning their 13th title by defeating Midleton CBS by 3-15 to 2-15 in the final, in the process passing out old rivals St. Flannans Ennis and St. Colmans Fermoy who have 12 titles each. Thurles also won the Corn Aodh Uí Dhúda (formally White Cup) for Munster Under 15 A Hurling last April so the conveyor belt of talent is strong at the Thurles CBS nursery. Thurles CBS will play St Josephs Secondary School Tulla in Round 1 on Monday next September 24th at a Limerick venue to be confirmed at the time of writing. Before that, on Wednesday this week (September 19th), Nenagh CBS take on Pobail Scoil Na Trionide Youghal in Leahy Park Cashel at 1:30pm with Scoil Na Trioniode Doon awaiting the winners in the Quarter-Final. Meanwhile, this Friday September 21st will see Our Lady’s Templemore playing CBC Cork at 1:30pm in Clonmel Sportsfield. TIPPERARY GAA WEBSITE & CLUB DIRECTORY
The new Tipperary GAA website has gone live and will provide hugely improved access for supporters to club results and fixtures among many of the regular features. This is a hugely welcome addition to the county profile and a vast amount of work has been put into the hew website by county IT Officer Lisa Stapleton in conjunction with the site designers. Together with the recent publication of the club directory both will be officially launched at the next Tuesday's county board meeting.
FÉILE CLASSICAL: It's all systems go for Féile Classical which gets under way this Friday with a second concert on Saturday and it will see a host of bands supported by the Irish Chamber Orchestra perform to a seated audience. In what promises to be unique and special events there will be much more besides including a food village.

A huge amount of work has been put in by the organising committee as they gear up for the weekend ahead. All details can be found on feileclassical.ie as the iconic venue of Semple Stadium welcomes back the Trip to Tipp.
