Given that Ballinahinch is one of Tipperary’s smallest parishes, the notion that they might ascend to the senior ranks of club hurling seems an incredible prospect, but the dream is still alive for after they fended off the challenge of near neighbours Seán Treacy’s last Sunday in this County Intermediate Hurling preliminary quarter final.

Infused with passion from start to finish, the game lived up to its billing as a local derby, producing a tense last fifteen minutes in which Treacy’s pushed Ballinahinch to the very brink, but eventually came up short by the slimmest of margins.

A tit-for-tat opening ten minutes set the trend for the rest of the action, with each side giving little in terms of space and possession.
